Not a lot of fat on those little miracles to keep them warm…..must be tough for them
They are only about 10cm long and weigh about 4 grams so they are tiny birds. Their nests are about the size of a ping-pong ball and their eggs are about the size of a jelly bean.
I thought cold climates and snow were a no no for Hummingbirds…..trust they survive
There is one breed of hummingbird that can stay through the winter – the Anna’s hummingbird. I don’t know how they do it, but they do survive.

What a long winter it has been.
It has been. We actually had a very mild winter. We’re getting more “winter” this spring than we had in the winter.
Great shots of the show; too bad the hummingbird got in the way . . . no, wait . . . great shots of the hummingbird and snow.
I felt so sorry for him being out in the wind and snow and cold. There are actually 2 hummingbirds. They were fighting at the feeders today.
Don’t feel too bad . . . fighting probably keeps them warm.
Brrrrrr…poor little guys!
The good news is that it is supposed to warm up to more spring-like temperatures this week.
my Anna’s just come in from the snow & watch everyone going by.They like to chill……
I have 2 Annas fighting at my feeder now. It’s still pretty cold but its supposed to warm up this week. I hope so.
your in Edmonton….right? I can’t believe they would go that far north in that kind of cold! Amazing!
No, I’m in Bend, Oregon.
sorry,my confusion.
