This is a male California Quail – a short-legged, plump bird with a comma-shaped crest. In the spring, the females will lay about 13-14 eggs and they are so much fun to watch when they are scurrying about.

Interesting looking bird Maralee, we just missed getting pics of this bird as a vagrant on an island we visited this week in the south pacific.
