Île d’Orléans is about 3 miles east of Quebec City and was one of the first parts of the province to be colonized by the French. We spent the afternoon of our second day in Quebec City driving around the island.
We made a few stops along the way. First was at Les Fromages de Île d’Orléans where they sell gourmet items, in particular, cheese. We didn’t stay there long as a tour bus with about 100 people pulled in right behind us.
We had hoped to see the fall colors while we were there but we were a few weeks too early. There were a few trees that had started changing colors.
Next was the observation tower at the east end of the island. When you climb the tower, you get a beautiful panoramic view of the island and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
From there we stopped at La Confiturerie des sorciers Tigidou where you will find the only “jam bar” that I know of. Owners Vincent and Catherine make the best jams from local fruits that I’ve tasted.
For the most part, we just enjoyed the scenery. Upon leaving the island, we stopped at beautiful 275 foot Montmorency Falls. A short walk will bring you up close and personal to the falls. Plan on getting a little wet.
It was another beautiful day in Quebec.
