I came across this snake in a small pond I was at yesterday afternoon. It isn’t a very big snake – make 12-15″ long. It was a very, very fast swimmer too. I followed it until it went into the brush at the side of the pond and wasn’t able to locate it after that. I had wanted my husband to hold it while I was photographing it but he had high-tailed it out of there as soon as he saw it.
This is only the second snake I’ve seen since I moved to Oregon 16 years ago. I wish I would see more.

He looked like he was a mover so maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t catch him in case he is a poisonous one. Be good Maralee and give Miranda a shout out from my Sox even though she isn’t here with me anymore. Kat
