I was sitting out on our front porch last weekend saying goodbye to my hummingbirds when this lovely young lady stopped by for a snack. She didn’t see me sitting there right away, but even when she did, she didn’t run off.
Meanwhile, on my back deck, the quail were cleaning up after the little birds who were dropping food from the feeder.

I haven’t seen our deer in a while. I just love the quails. They wear a fancy hat. We don’t have them here.
Our deer still stop by occasionally. This morning there was a beautiful buck in our yard as I was leaving for work. But it was still a little too dark to get any photos.
It’s good to have a cleaner in.
Since the quail have found the remnants, I haven’t had to do as much sweeping of the deck. 🙂
Simply lovely! Though I eventually switched from admiring the deer because they can be so terribly destructive.
I’ve learned to live with them eating my plants and such. There are so many in our area that I might as well just go with the flow.
Lovely that one goes and another arrives… love the quail, how beautiful…
They are such pretty birds.
Oh my god, that quail looks ridiculous and beautiful.
Thanks, Bill and thank you for following my blog. The quail usually run at the slightest noise. But these have gotten pretty brazen by coming up on our deck to eat the bird seed that is dropping from the bird feeder.
From their shapes, I’d guess hunger was a stronger instinct than fear.
I think they’re preparing to hunker down for the winter.
Beautiful doe and beautiful bird 🙂
