For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a sort of macabre fascination with cemeteries. And the older the cemetery the better. 
I wonder what the lives were like for these people who lived here so long ago.
Whenever I travel, if I happen to pass by a cemetery, I have to stop and wander through it. These photos were taken in various locations.

The Scotland one is my favorite too. We were there on the perfect day . . . the skies were ominous and gray. It just set the perfect atmosphere.

I was always walking through the old graveyard when I was a kid to look at all the names and dates. There was an orphanage near us and there were a number of children buried from one thing or another. My girlfriend and I would pick wildflowers and put them on the graves. I guess it made us feel that we were doing something to make the folks there not forgotten. I like old gravestones.
It was nice that you would put flowers on the graves. I think its so sad when I see graves of young children who have never had an opportunity to grow up.

These are wonderful, Maralee. I also wonder about the people, especially the women, who came before.
Thanks, Carissa. I’m sure most of the women had much harder lives than we do. I love to have my mother tell me stories from when she was growing up. It makes me appreciate everything I have.
