Today I wanted to experiment with light using light painting, natural light, and a combination of both. Someone brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers into the office yesterday and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to practice some lighting with it.

So this morning I came into the office at the early hour of 6:30 a.m. to set up my photo shoot in one of the offices. First I closed out all the lights and did light painting with a flashlight in the complete darkness. Then I opened the shades to let the natural light in. It still wasn’t very bright out so I used a long exposure.

Then I did a combination of both. It was a fun project.

very interesting, and again, I will need to find the time to experiment. Thanks for the settings, as well.
I like these images.:)
The light painting sounds like fun. I’ll have to try it sometime, if I can get a room dark enough. Thanks for explaining how you do things. i love to learn.
The next last … my favorite …. you do very well, when you play around. *smile
Interesting photos. What do you do with the flashlight, exactly?
The photo is taken in a dark room. Before I shut off the lights I get the focus set, set the shutter speed (this I have to experiment to get the best results) usually between 10-30 seconds. Then I turn off the lights and “paint” light onto the subject using a flashlight. I have to play around with the shutter speed and aperture to get the result I want. I hope this helps explain it a little
Yes. kind of. Doesn’t the flashlight have a fairly wide swath of light? How close is the light source to the subject?
I have a flashlight that can vary the intensity. I experiment both ways. I usually stay to the back and side of the camera and “paint” it all over. It’s all experimentation to see what works and what doesn’t.
Awesome!!!!Very nice composition with flowers!
