Canada Finale – Canmore

When we go to Alberta, we stay in Canmore rather than in Banff. It is much less crowded than Banff, it is close to Kananaskis Country access, and it is only 16 miles from Banff. There are a number of hiking areas in close proximity to Canmore including along the Bow River right in town. You will likely see elk grazing in town at local parks oblivious to people out walking and playing.

In the early evening, we like to take a drive along Spray Lake to see if we can observe any wildlife. In the past we have seen grizzly bear, black bear and moose. On this trip we only saw mountain sheep. The road is a dirt road although it is generally well maintained. The road loops around through Kananaskis Country and will bring you right back to Canmore.

If you enjoy cross-country skiing, there are a lot of trails in Canmore. Canmore was the nordic skiing site for the Calgary Olympics in 1988.

This was another wonderful trip to Alberta and I look forward to our next adventure there.

  1. Oh no, Maralee – must this really be the last post about your trip to Alberta? I enjoyed it thoroughly and hope one day I’ll also see all this beauty with my own eyes. Thanks very much!

I'd love to hear from you
