It was a foggy, dreary day here yesterday. I had the day off and used some of the time to photograph my Schlumbergera plant (aka Christmas Cactus) which is flowering now.

I had fun playing around with Photoshop and NIK Software to come up with variations on the same flower.

Any favorites?

Maralee

I like the last one very much!
Thank you very much, Carine.
The first image is my favorite. I am guessing you shot this flower against a white wall and blew out the highlights? I love Nik Effects 🙂
You are correct regarding how I shot the flower. NIK is one of my favorite processing softwares.
Beautiful shots…. I just noticed a few days ago my Christmas Cactus is flowering too… I was thinking this was unusual as it always flowers towards the end of the year… then I realized this IS the end of the year!
Its amazing how quickly the year goes by.
Great job Maralee but I think the first image is my favorite.
Thank you, Edith.
I’m so sorry, but I like the original best… 🙂
Thank you. I think that is the general consensus
.
all are lovely. Color and how you caught the shape spectacular
Thanks, Mo. Its one of my favorite colors.
Love the bright fuschia edges on the first shot. Very nice effect. I am still puzzled why folks feel the need to regress to B&W. Unless it’s to show what the world is like for the color blind????
Thanks, Gunta.
Beautiful flower! I prefer the first one.
Thanks, Judy.
original image is the kewlest to me, i thought id see better ones when i clicked on the blog but the original is well, outstandingly kewl 🙂 no need to change that one….. 🙂 Hugz Q
Thanks so much, Q.
My xmas cactus is flowering right now. Hopefully I’ll find the time to snap a few photos.
I also prefer the original. The color of those flowers, and their translucency, is enough. I’ve played with filters before, but the only look I like (other than the normal one) is what I call the “metal” look; essentially a variation on B&W treatment.
Thanks, Emilio. I like the original best, too, but I do have fun playing around with them. 🙂
They’re all beautiful and well done. I think my favourite is the third one. 🙂
Thank you, Inga.
Each one makes a statement, lovely work, Annie
Thank you very much.
How wonderful your different treatments with this cactus flower. Funny as I was looking at mine and thinking of photographing it as well. I never would have gotten the composition that you had though.
I’m thinking of getting another plant with different color blooms (I think I’ve seen different colors). It seems to be the one plant I can grow without killing it within a month.
I love them all but I’m usually partial to bright colors so the first edges out the others for me.
Thanks, AJ.
Number one the best and then the last 🙂
Thank you, Wendy.
