California Quail – Day 55 – A Year of Wildlife
This is a male California Quail - a short-legged, plump bird with a comma-shaped crest. In the spring, the females will lay about 13-14 eggs and they are so much fun to watch when they are scurrying about.

Wood Ducks – Day 53 – A Year of Wildlife
These photos were taken a few years ago when some wood ducks joined our mallards at the river. I haven't seen any wood ducks since.
