I have wanted to go to Proxy Falls for quite some time but for one reason or another I have never made it there. Yesterday I had my chance. A group of photographers from the meet-up group I belong take a trip to the falls.

It is only about 54 miles from home but you will need about 1-1/2 to 2 hours to get there. The shortest route goes along the McKenzie Highway and it is a narrow, winding road which makes it impossible to drive with any speed. Google Maps says it is faster to go the longer route over Santiam Pass by about 4 minutes, but it is 30 miles longer.
The hike to the falls itself is not difficult. There are a few rocky areas where you need to watch your step, a few places where you have to climb over or under fallen trees. Hiking poles would have been helpful…they are now on my list.
When you get to the falls, you have to walk through streams to get to the falls. So it is a good idea to bring an extra pair of shoes and socks to change into when you are done. I didn’t and I was walking around with wet fee for a while.
The falls are gorgeous. I didn’t do any vibrancy or saturation edits with these photos – it is just this green.

Worth the trip, obviously.
Very worth the trip. I would go again and stay longer.
It was. I would like to go back in the fall when the colors start to change.
Beautiful!
Thank you, Judy. How are you doing?
You came home with tremendous photographs of this beautiful spot, Maralee!
Thanks. It really is a beautiful place. And very serene.
Really gorgeous falls! I like the slight blue tone.
Thank you. It was surprisingly cool at the falls. It was 95 degrees when we started walking in and by the time we got to the falls the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees.
Something what I wish that days. We had in Germany a really hot and dry summer this year.
and still have 🙂
The magic of waterfalls…… and no wonder you were determined to get to these falls, the wait was worth it. 🙂
I love waterfalls. They are so calming.
Beautiful images of a magical place, Maralee!
Thanks Ellen. It truly is a magical place.
Well worth getting your feet wet for such a scene.
It definitely was. But next time I will bring an extra pair of shoes. 🙂
You are right! The falls are gorgeous!
