As I was walking along the river yesterday, camera in hand, looking for birds, I heard a rustling in the trees next to me and lo and behold, there was a group of about 8 deer walking by. They weren’t more than 10-15 feet away. I stopped. They stopped. I was able to get a few shots before they wandered further down the trail. 
The trail that I walk is heavily used by walkers, bikers, and runners and I wonder how many people didn’t even know they were there.
