We have both river otters and beavers in the rivers here. I see them swimming quite often but I’m never sure if I’m seeing a beaver or an otter. I usually just see the top of its head when its swimming.
Thanks. Never even heard of them, and I was not sure about it being a beaver because I could not identify the flat tail in the photos, but I knew it was not an otter.
It’s a beaver. 😉
My call is that’s a beaver but the tail would tell the tale, so to speak. Unfortunately, I can’t see it well in the photos.
I think it’s a beaver because of the fur; otters have ‘slicker’ fur and don’t usually swim about with vegetation in their mouths.
Beaver.
It is not an otter but I think it might be a nutria. They are rodents like beavers but without the broad tail and you do have them in Oregon.

I’d never heard of that before so I Googled it and it sure looks like what it is.
Top one–definitely a beaver
Then I looked at the second–now not sure.
Beaver…
