Moonset

We had a gorgeous moon set yesterday morning.  I used my trusty The Photographer’s Ephemeris app to see exactly where the moon was going to set.  It’s not a cheap app – I think it was $9.99 – but it will give you valuable information wherever you are in the world.

The camera does not always see what the eye sees and this was one of those cases.  My eye could see the detail in the moon and the detail of the pond and trees.  The camera didn’t – it either saw the moon and the background was pitch black, or it saw the background and the moon was a white light with no detail.

I had to combine two exposures for these photos – one I metered on the moon and the other on the background and then I combined them in Photoshop.

  1. WoOoOoOooOow! Maralee, you have really catched the moon now – fantastic shots, the last one – priceless .. with the clouds in the mountains. You have come a MEGA way. *smile
Fantastic job, even if Photoshop had some part in it. Just priceless, Maralee.

    1. I can’t believe the weather we’ve been having. Seems so much more like spring. It makes me fear for the fire season though. If we don’t get some significant moisture soon, the fire season may be a bad one this year.

I'd love to hear from you
