After a weekend of gray skies, the clouds cleared and we had a spectacular blue-sky day yesterday. I went to the park to check out the fall colors.
The water at Mirror Pond has gone down about 2 feet due to a break in the dam that creates the pond. The dam is 100 years old, made of wood, and the future of the dam is uncertain. The reduction in water has created mud flats in Mirror Pond.
There are those who believe the dam should be removed and the pond would be a free-flowing river (with much less water). And there are those who believe that Mirror Pond is a beautiful asset to downtown Bend. We are basically a tourist area and Mirror Pond has been the iconic symbol of the beauty of downtown Bend.
Nothing has been decided on what they will be done to solve this problem.

Wow I hope they keep it… it looks magnificent through your photos..
Looks lovely!
Damn problems! . . . they never end.
Beautiful photos.
I’m still trying to learn the names of the peaks. What’s the one peeking over the hills in your shot?
I love your photos and the reflections in the water, Mmmm ……like a Mirror image.
Keep the pond. Still water is a real asset. Loved the snow capped peak in the background.
