I have never seen this bird before but I believe it is a juvenile sharp-shinned hawk. Or maybe it's an American Kestrel. Or a Merlin. Whatever it is, it flew onto a dam while I was walking along the river. It was quite a ways away and even with a 500mm lens, it was difficult …
