The worst of our dangerous heat wave has passed although it is still much hotter than normal. At least it hasn't hit 100 degrees yet today. Last I heard the osprey family had survived the excessive heat. Momma
Staying Cool
Even the birds are staying in the shade trying to stay cool. Hopefully this "heat dome" will be ending after today and then temperatures will go down slightly. They'll still be above normal but at least not in triple digits. This robin has a nice juicy caterpillar lunch Mourning dove staying cool under a tree
The Little Ones are Learning
The osprey chicks have learned to poop outside the nest. Hopefully there wasn't anyone on the walking trail below.
Osprey in Flight
Daddy osprey is staying close to the nest and making the occasional fly-by to check on his family.
The Babies are Growing Up
The two remaining osprey chicks are getting bigger and changing color. I read that they have a huge growth spurt between 20-30 days after hatching. So I'm thinking that in another week they should be hitting that growth spurt. Now if they can just make it through this triple digit heat wave.
