The African spoonbill (Platalea alba) is a long-legged wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. The species is widespread across Africa including Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. It usually resides by shallow inland waters which is where we found it in Amboseli. Amboseli National Park in Kenya is home to more than 600 species of birds. We found most of the birds at a small lake near the airstrip and in the marsh areas. Almost all of the birds were new to me. I believe this is a yellow-billed stork.
I haven't seen any of the baby owls for several weeks but this one big owl has been sticking around. I usually see it near this location. Most of the time it is sleeping. Maralee
