When we moved into our “new” office seven years ago, there were a number of things that needed fixing up.

The building had been a family residence back in the mid-20th century, when Bend was just a small town of about 10,000 people (it is now 85,000). The house has since transitioned into an office building which we took over in 2005. But I digress. . .
One of the areas that needed “fixing” was the heating system. While installing an upgrade, the electricians had to go underneath the building through a small crawl space. Along with black widow spiders and other creepy, crawly things, they found a cache of little wooden toys.

These simple little toys must have been a great joy for the children who lived in the house. I think about those children who must be about the same age as me and wonder if they just forgot about the little wooden toys under the house when they moved, if they ever missed them.

Now they have a new home.

Happy toys!!! . . . I hate happy toys!!!
Nah, just kidding. Nice compositions . . . still wish they were not smiling as much.
They’re happy because they finally got away from sleeping on the cold hard ground for the last 30-40 years. The guy with the cowboy hat looks a little like your photo.
. . . yeah . . . except for the big smile.
. . . the shape is about right . . .
Cute. Love the happy couple!
Love the cork “stools!”
Boy those bring back memories from my childhood. Kids nowadays wouldnt know what to do with them, because they cant plug them in.
That’s so true. I had fun playing with them last night. I haven’t given them names yet . . . I have to think about that for a bit.
Wonderful story – that you have taken on the toys .. and given them a “home” – those toys has given loads of joy to the kids that played with them – because I think kids like simple things to occupy them self with. Look at Lego – the most simple idea ever and they have been around 1949.
well those are neat. i remember once my kids were little we had all kinds of these.. ; )
What a wonderful treasure. It would be fun to know the story behind how they got there.
Aw, cute! 🙂 Wish they could talk…
Gosh…thanks for this post, so nice to see those little Fisher-Price people! The memories come flooding in…thanks for giving them a new home.
Thanks for identifying the toys for me. I wasn’t sure. Now I want to have someone crawl back under the house and see if there’s anything more down there. (It won’t be me because I don’t like creepy crawly things).
